Building the Intranet Portal and eLeave system - Managing Leaves is not as simple as you believe

Summary

Warner Bros Asia Pacific (AP) requires a flexible Intranet Portal and eLeave system to manage the Leave applications across the Asia Pacific region, comprising of 10 countries.

Background

Before implementation, there was no centralized system within the AP region to control their leave application/leave records, relying on tedious manual work & paper filing.

Challenges

Warner Bros AP serves the offices located in ten different countries.  It was not easy to disseminate information when the locations are disparate.  Hence, Warner Bros AP was searching for an Intranet Portal solution that lets the AP team publish up-to-date news easily.  Further, the local office teams can maintain and publish their local news content.

Wanting to ease the leave applications across the region, they requested to develop a web-based eLeave application where staff across the region can apply leave online.  This is rather challenging because the eLeave system must be flexible enough to handle the leave logics and regulations for all different countries.  In addition, the system must be flexible to cater for any future changes in regulations and rules. 

Solution

The System is a web-based Intranet Portal with eLeave application.   As it involves complex leave logic and calculation, our consultant worked closely with the business users to analyse their requirements and design the new system.

The System was built on the latest Java framework.  It is a totally web-based system, allowing users from different geographies to access.

The eLeave application eases the overall administration of staff leaves.  At the front-end, the staff can easily submit leaves in the Intranet.  The respective supervisors can review and approve their leave applications anywhere, anytime.  The System is robust and all the leave calculation is automated.  It is flexible enough to handle exceptional cases, for example, special forfeit requests.

On the administrative side, Staff profile and leave records are easily managed.  Holidays, leave rules and master settings can be easily added or edited.  Various Leave Analysis Reports are available at fingertips.

Future Plan

Warner Bros AP has successfully deployed the Portal and eLeave System to 10 different countries and it is well received. There are numerous enhancements in the roadmap for 2010. DMA is excited to be working with Warner Bros AP again.
