Helping the electronics giant forecast the future

Summary

The Japanese electronics giant turned to IBM and DMA to completely revamp their forecasting and budgeting system.

Background

The Japanese electronics giant had an old system in use for almost 7 years. As business evolves the old system can no longer cope with the changing environment. In addition, there no longer was support for the old system. Hence, they decided to build the new System from scratch, using the latest Java technology.

Challenges

It requires in-depth knowledge of their business, hence it requires very experienced consultant
There are many interrelated business rules in the system, making testing a very difficult task

Solution

IBM and DMA partnered in this project to design and implement this complex business system. At the onset, it was decided to develop the system on the IBM Websphere Application Server platform, leveraging its stability and scalability.

The System is a sales forecast and budgeting system and it involves complex business calculation logics, our architect worked closely with the business and technical users to analyse their requirements and design the new system.

The System was built on the latest Java framework using IBM Rational development tools. It is a totally web-based system, allowing users from different geographies to access.

The Project also involved different functional units and hence good project management is a must. Information sharing was made easy by using the DMA Project Management Portal.

Future Plan

After the successful launch of the system, IBM and DMA were engaged in the Phase 2 Enhancement Project to extend the forecasting system to other business units.

In addition, DMA is providing on-going maintenance and support to the Giant.
